Attention K-5 Elementary teachers! The Program for Teaching East Asia, in cooperation with the University of Washington East Asia Resource Center, is offering a 20-hour online course for elementary (K-5) teachers nationwide. Elementary educators nationwide who teach world cultures are invited to apply.
Through this course, participants will examine children’s literature about Japan and consider teaching ideas that integrate literacy and social studies strategies to teach world cultures, using the case of Japanese culture and history. Content will address Common Core standards and exemplary practices in social studies using four outstanding works of children’s fiction on Japan.
