The Missouri Geographic Alliance houses two giant maps of Missouri, which are available to be borrowed for educational settings. Both were created with the intention to be walked on (while wearing clean socks.) The topographic map created in Missouri with funding from the Missouri GIS Advisory Council and Missouri 4-H measures 15 feet by 15 feet. The State Giant Traveling Map created and supported by National Geographic measures 17 feet by 21 feet.
These maps are fantastic tools to get youth and educators on the map and all over Missouri from the comfort of their gymnasium or classroom. Along with the map, you will receive an educational tool trunk. In the lessons tab underneath the Giant Traveling Map drop down, you will find example lesson plans created by National Geographic and Missouri educators as well as a complete list of items in the trunk.
After completing your map event, we ask that you fill out the following survey to help better the Giant Traveling Map program.
During the 2016-2017 school year, the floor maps will be coming to you! The Missouri Geographic Alliance will be hosting trainings in each region of the state, dates to be released soon.
