Do you want your students to understand the magnitude of the refugee crisis in Syria but you’re not sure how to tie it into your lesson plan? Well, you are in luck because the Choices Program has released a new Teaching with the News classroom activity.
Using human geography and critical thinking, your students will discuss what it means to be a refugee and then analyze data of current refugees. Each student will then follow the story of one refugee and map out their trek while considering the challenges faced by the international community. Students will then share the story they were given and the map they created with the class.
This lesson is a great way to not only get your students actively thinking about the refugee crisis, but also starting a conversation within your classroom about crisis and the challenges others are going through. Find the lesson here.
